The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested a 24-year-old man for robbing, sexually assaulting and murdering a 15-year-old e-rickshaw driver in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area.

The incident took place on February 27 and the police started a probe after an FIR was registered by the victim’s mother, saying that her son was missing.

His body was recovered from the forest area in Kalindi Kunj on February 28 and the post-mortem suggested that he was sexually assaulted and then strangulated to death.

The police said that the accused man, identified as Mohammad Aakib who is also an e-rickshaw driver, was wanted in a murder case in Jamia Nagar.

DCP Manoj C of the Special Cell said that one of his teams was conducting regular surveillance of wanted criminals and their possible hideouts in Delhi-NCR.

A source informed the Special Cell team that Aakib was involved in the robbery and murder of a child in Jamia Nagar, following which a trap was laid near the Dabri Flyover to nab the accused man.

Aakib was arrested on Saturday and confessed to committing the crime along with two of his friends, Aamir and Sahil, as he was in dire need of money.

He told interrogators that the victim was known to them, and on February 24, they persuaded him to take them towards Kalindi Kunj.

When they reached the secluded forest area, two of the three physically abused the victim, then all of them together strangulated him to death and then dumped the body there.

The three men tried to sell the victim’s e-rickshaw in Noida, but they were unable to do so.

They then disposed the e-rickshaw and sold its battery.

Akib’s two accomplices are currently absconding.
