NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India is gearing up to announce the schedule of the Lok Sabha elections in the next 15-20 days, J&K chief electoral officer PK Pole said on Saturday.
Senior officials are currently on the ground assessing the election readiness of various states and are actively meeting with the chief electoral officers of different states to address potential issues ahead of the upcoming general elections.
On reviewing poll preparedness in Anantnag parliamentary constituency, J&K CEO said, “Election Commission of India will notify the schedule of the Lok Sabha elections in the next 15-20 days. I met district commissioners of three areas – Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian in this regard today. Our aim is to conduct free & fair, peaceful and transparent elections and ensure voter turnout is better than in previous years.”
“Keeping the security situation in mind, we have flagged the requirement for the deployment of security forces during elections,” he added.
Nearly 97 crore Indians are set to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The electoral rolls were across India in early February after an intensive Special Summary Revision 2024 process.
Along with the general election, several states including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are also preparing to hold simultaneous assembly polls in the coming months.
