Chaos erupted in the Punjab Assembly on Monday after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann handed over a lock and key to the Speaker to keep the Opposition MLAs inside the House during a discussion. Mann said the lock will ensure that the Opposition members do “not run away”.

Before the discussion commenced on the second day of the Budget session in the Punjab Assembly, Mann said he brought a gift for the Speaker — “probably a first of its kind”. He then handed the Speaker a yellow envelope which contained the lock and key.

Choas erupted soon afterwards as Leader of Opposition and Congress member Partap Singh Bajwa told the Chief Minister that they would not run away. A heated argument broke out between the two leaders.
