Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna and Disha Patani starrer ‘Yodha‘ which released on Friday had a dull first weekend according to trade. A big actioner like this should’ve had a bigger opening weekend but it ended up having a total of Rs 16.85 crore within the first three days. This was considered low as ‘Yodha’ had a ‘buy one get one free’ offer on Saturday. The Sunday business did see a growth as compared to Saturday and the film made around Rs 7 crore on Sunday. However, Monday has seen a huge drop.
From Rs 7 crore, ‘Yodha’ dropped to Rs 2.15 (as per early estimates) on Monday according to Sacnilk. The 4-day collection of the film is now Rs 19 crore. So, there’s been a downfall of around Rs 5 crore. Clearly now, as per the trend seen in the last few years, these kind of action movies are not really striking a chord with the masses. That’s what also happened in case of ‘Fighter’ as most trade experts thought that the film only had a connect with the urban centres and didn’t get much business from the masses, despite its starry appeal.
On Friday, ETimes had predicted the opening day number of the movie to be less than Rs 5crore and spoke to trade expert, exhibitors and distributors. At that point, trade analyst Girish Wankhede had pointed out factors which has led to the lacklustre numbers of the film. “Several postponement of the film might have made it a stale proposition and there was no novelty in the look or positioning of the film. Barring one or two innovative hoardings in Mumbai, there was nothing to talk about. The promotions and visibility on digital space was also inadequate and nothing novel was pushed . The look and feel was too routine and mundane. It had a pure disconnect with the audience owing to its main lead pair and visibility quotient,” he had said.
