NEW DELHI: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has indicated that the recent meeting between Union home minister Amit Shah and MNS chief Raj Thackeray has shown positive signs, adding that the outcome of their discussions is expected to become clearer in the coming days.
The recent meeting between Raj Thackeray and Amit Shah in the national capital fueled speculations of a BJP-MNS collaboration for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra.
In response to queries about the meeting, Fadnavis said, “Raj Thackeray met Amit Shah in Delhi. It would be premature to comment on it immediately. The picture will be clear in the next few days, and we will brief you in detail.”
Bala Nandgaonkar, a leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), mentioned that the party will follow Raj Thackeray’s directives when it comes to contesting in the Lok Sabha elections.
Raj Thackeray, who founded the MNS in 2006 after parting ways with the Shiv Sena, may potentially secure a seat in Mumbai if the alliance with the BJP is finalized. Regarding the seat-sharing arrangements within the ruling Mahayuti alliance, Fadnavis emphasized the common goal of winning key Lok Sabha seats like Baramati and Madha to support Narendra Modi‘s bid for re-election as Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has accused the BJP of attempting to win elections by “stealing” a “Thackeray,” following Raj Thackeray and Amit Shah’s meeting.
Speaking in Nanded district, Uddhav expressed his indifference towards the BJP potentially aligning with his estranged cousin.
“BJP knows very well that they don’t get votes in the name of PM Narendra Modi in Maharashtra. People vote here in the name of (Bal) Thackeray. This realisation prompted the BJP to try to steal leaders from outside (BJP fold),” he said.
Accusing the BJP of falsely claiming the legacy of Bal Thackeray, Uddhav labeled the BJP’s foundation as “bogus.”
“First, they stole the photo of Bal Thackeray, but it doesn’t matter. Today, they are trying to steal another Thackeray….take it, I and my people are enough,” he said.
