HYDERABAD: Former World Championships bronze medallist B Sai Praneeth announced his retirement on Monday.
The 31-year-old shuttler, who ended India’s 36-year-old drought of a World Championships medal in 2019, said that he is happy for what he has achieved in his career.
“There are several ups and downs but I am happy with what I have achieved in my career.I know I could have done more but the fact that I will be remembered as one of the best singles players is quite satisfying,” said Praneeth, who said that his biggest regret is not winning an Olympic medal.
“I have won some good tournaments. But my biggest regret is not winning an Olympic medal,” added Praneeth, who is considered one of the artists of the game.

Not performing over the last few months made Praneeth took this decision. “Over the last 12 months, I have not been doing well. My ranking came down and there were a few injuries. So I thought it is time to bid adieu,” Praneeth said.
The shuttler will now move to the USA to take up a coaching job with a club in North Carolina.
Praneeth was always considered a gifted player and was one of the most feared players on the circuit. Even when Kidambi Srikanth was on a high winning four Super Series titles in 2017, Praneeth defeated him to win the Singapore Open.
He also won the Canada Open in 2016 and Thailand Open in 2017.
He announced his arrival on the international stage when he defeated the famous Taufik Hidayat in the last match of the latter’s career.
