Legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was not happy with the way Mumbai batters played in the final of the Ranji Trophy on Sunday, 10 March. After being sent to bat first, Mumbai collapsed despite a strong opening partnership between Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lalwani.
Mumbai looked in a strong position in the first hour of the morning session with Prithvi Shaw and Lalwani briskly scoring runs. The dominated the first 17 overs of the match where both players found their range and played safe cricket.
After the first drinks break in the 18th over, the Vidarbha players regrouped and corrected their lines and lengths. The Akshay Wadkar-led team was rewarded straight away as Mumbai went from 80/0 in 19 overs to 109/4 in 33 overs in the morning session of the game.
Ranji Trophy Final: Day 1 Live Updates
Sachin took to Twitter to post his frustration and called Mumbai’s batting ordinary on Sunday.
“After a good start, Mumbai batters played some ordinary cricket. On the other hand, Vidarbha have kept things simple and put Mumbai under pressure. I am sure there will be many exciting sessions in this game as the match unfolds. The wicket has grass cover, but the ball will turn and assist spinners as the game progresses. Vidarbha will be happy with the way they got back in the game after a solid partnership by the Mumbai openers. The first session belonged to Vidarbha,” Sachin wrote on Twitter.
At the time of writing, Mumbai had slipped further losing two more wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer after Lunch. At the time of writing, Mumbai were 128/6 with Shardul Thakur and Shams Mulani in the crease.
Senior batters in the team – Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane – scored in single digits (7) in the game. After Shaw (46) and Lalwani (37), Mumbai’s score card looked like a phone number with four batters registering their scores in single digits.
