NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is under fire for his “Shakti remark”, on Thursday repeated his attack and said their fight was against hate-filled “Asura Shakti”. Rahul also unleashed an all-out offensive against government for freezing party’s bank accounts and alleged that there is “no democracy” in India today. The Congress MP asserted that by blocking the accounts of the largest opposition party the BJP had caused great damage to Indian democracy.
“This is a criminal action on the Congress party, a criminal action done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister. So, the idea that India is a democracy is a lie. There is no democracy in India today. The idea that India is the world’s largest democracy is a lie. A complete lie,” he said.
The BJP reacted strongly to Congress’s charges and said the grand old party was conveniently blaming their irrelevance on ‘financial troubles’. BJP chief JP Nadda said “In reality, their bankruptcy is moral and intellectual, not financial.”
Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s “Asura-shakti” remark, BJP leader Nalin Kohli said “By calling a government elected by the people ‘Asura’shakti’, the Congress is confirming that they have no faith in the people of India, voters of India, those who determine the destiny of India. Do they believe that people vote for Asuras? The fact of the matter is that the Congress party has no credible reason to go before the people, it’s looking for excuses and others to blame for their own inadequacies.”
The BJP said that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leaders were lying about the status of their bank accounts.
Rahul Gandhi had used the Shakti remark recently at a rally in Mumbai to attack the BJP-led government at the Centre.
“There is a word ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism. We are fighting against Shakti. The question is, what is Shakti? The soul of the king is in the EVM. This is true. The soul of the king is in the EVM and every institution of the country, in the ED, CBI and Income Tax Department,” Rahul had said at the rally.
The BJP attack against him was led by PM Modi, who accused Rahul Gandhi of insulting Hindu faith.
Hitting back at Rahul’s remarks on democracy, Nadda said, “Congress’ part time leaders say India being a democracy is a lie- may I humbly remind them that India was not a democracy only for a few months between 1975 and 1977 and that time the Prime Minister of India was none other than Mrs. Indira Gandhi”.
