Mumbai Indians recorded a big seven-wicket over struggling Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankede Stadium on Thursday. RCB posted 196 despite Jasprit Bumrah’s five-fer but explosive knocks from Ishan Kishan and Suryakyumar Yadav boosted Mumbai to their second win in the IPL 2024.

Coming into this fixture with just one win, both teams produced a memorable game with five batters recording fifties and Bumrah producing a sensational five-wicket haul. With their fifth loss of the season, RCB remain in the ninth position in the points table while Mumbai jumped to seventh place.

RCB made four changes to their playing eleven in the hope of a second win of the season with English all-rounder Will Jacks replacing Cameron Green. Mumbai also handed debut to spinner Shreyas Gopal who replaced veteran Piyush Chawla.

After being forced to bat first, RCB lost their in-form star Virat Kohli in the third over and debutant Will Jacks departed after scoring just eight runs. Bengaluru managed to make a comeback with skipper Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar adding 82 runs for the third wicket.

Patidar scored 50 runs off just 26 balls while Faf managed to end his poor run of form by top-scoring with 61 off 40 balls. Bumrah then produced two double-wicket overs but the veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik displayed his big-hitting skills by smashing an unbeaten 53 off just 23 balls with the help of five fours and four sixes.

Chasing a tough total, Mumbai Indians enjoyed a flying start with openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma adding 101 runs for the first wicket. Ishan Kishan played an explosive knock to register his first fifty of the 2024 season by smashing 69 runs off just 34 balls.

Akash Deep, playing his first game of the season, gave Bengaluru a breakthrough with Ishan’s wicket in the ninth over. But Mumbai kept the runs flowing with the next batter Suryakumar Yadav proving his world no.1 ranking in the T20I cricket.

Suryakumar smashed a 17-ball fifty to end RCB’s slim hopes for a comeback. Hardik Pandya also contributed by smashing 21* off just 6 balls and finished the chase with a brilliant six over the covers to give Mumbai an easy win with 27 balls remaining.
