MUMBAI: The state Congress has asked its national leadership to allow it to put up friendly fights in five Lok Sabha constituencies claimed by its MVA partners.
In an online meeting, state Congress politicians complained about the Shiv Sena (UBT) unilaterally declaring candidates for Sangli, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East and Mumbai South Central, and the NCP claiming Bhiwandi.
MPCC president Nana Patole, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, Congress legislature party leader Balasaheb Thorat and MPCC working president Nasim Khan conveyed their disappointment to AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik over the manner in which Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) rejected the Congress claim on the five seats.
“We have urged the Congress leadership that even if these five seats have been allotted to NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress should be allowed to contest on these seats. It may be called a friendly contest. Despite discussions on the seat-sharing formula, a decision on the five disputed seats was taken unilaterally,” Khan said.
