SHIMLA: In a setback for Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, Vikramaditya Singh, a state minister and the son of the former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, stepped down from his position on Wednesday.
Vikramaditya Singh announced his decision at a press conference following the declaration of the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Sabha election results on Tuesday.

Who is Vikramaditya Singh
Born on October 17, 1989, Vikramaditya Singh is an MLA from the Shimla Rural constituency.He is the son of the late ex-CM Virbhadra Singh. His mother, Pratibha Singh, is the MP from Mandi and also the state Congress chief.
Vikramaditya Singh is a two-time MLA. He won his first election in 2017 and repeated the performance in 2023.
Why did he resign
Vikramaditya Singh said, “All I would like to say is that under the current circumstances, it is not correct for me to continue as a part of the government. So, I have decided that I am resigning from the Council of Ministers. I am resigning as a minister.”
Education
In 2016, he completed his Master of Arts in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, following his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in 2011 from Hans Raj College, Delhi University.
Political career
Vikramaditya’s active state political journey began in 2013 when he associated with the HP Congress Committee. He was elected as the Himachal Pradesh state youth congress president in 2013 until 2017.
In 2017, he won from the Shimla Rural constituency as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, and again in 2022. On January 8, 2023, he became the PWD, Youth Services & Sports, Urban Development Minister of Himachal Pradesh in the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu Ministry.

Vikramaditya Singh is son of Late Virbhadra Singh. Virbhadra, the son of late Raja Sir Padam Singh of Bushahr State, was born on June 23, 1934, in Sarahan, Shimla district. He held various significant political positions throughout his career, including multiple terms as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and as a member of parliament.
He was re-elected to the thirteenth Vidhan Sabha (9th term) in December 2017 from the Arki assembly constituency.
Attended Ayodhya temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony despite party’s deniel
He also displayed a defiant stance at the inauguration of the Ram Temple. Despite being a Congress minister, Vikramaditya Singh received an invitation to the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya on January 22.
While the entire party maintained a distance from the event, he chose to break ranks and attend the ceremony in Ayodhya. His participation in event at the Ram Temple stirred controversy.
