NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday raided several locations in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali in connection with the land-grabbing case against the expelled TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan who is currently under CBI’s custody.
Besides being implicated in the assault on an ED team during a raid on his Sandeshkhali residence, linked to an alleged ration scam, Shahjahan faces charges of land encroachment, extortion, and mistreatment of women alongside his accomplices.
Multiple women in the island also accused Shajahan and his aides of ‘land-grab and sexual assault’ under coercion.
After evading authorities for nearly two months, the suspended TMC leader was apprehended by the West Bengal Police on February 29.
Later, following the orders from the Calcutta high court, the Crime investigation Department (CID) of Kolkata Police transferred custody of Sheikh Shahjahan to the CBI.
