NEW DELHI: The second and supposedly final central election committee meeting of BJP in presence of PM Narendra Modi and other senior leaders was held till late on Monday and the party is likely to announce candidates for more than 150 seats on Tuesday. The party had announced a list of 195 candidates last week after the first CEC.
States which came up for discussion included Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Haryana. There are around 100 seats on which the party brass held discussions in the first CEC but candidates were not announced.
Ahead of the meeting, Haryana deputy CM and Jannayak Janta Party leader Dushyant Chautala held talks with BJP president J P Nadda over distribution of seats. Though a section of Haryana BJP netas are opposed to alliance, the party seems to be weighing its options. BJP had won all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2019. JJP had allied with the party after assembly polls.
BJP has joined hands with a number of parties across country in the run-up to general elections, expected to be held in April-May, as it eyes a bigger majority.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was the latest to join National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and BJP is also in talks with Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
BJP has named candidates for 195 seats spread across 16 states and two UT. However, two of them, Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh and Upendra Rawat, withdrew after their choice sparked controversies.
