AGRA: Rameshwar Chaudhary, son of sitting BJP MLA Chaudhary Babulal, has filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the Fatehpur Sikri parliamentary seat, setting the stage for an interesting electoral contest. Notably, Babulal was elected as a BJP MP from Fatehpur Sikri in 2014, but the party benched him in 2019.
BJP has nominated Rajkumar Chahar, the incumbent MP, in the Jat-majority constituency. However, Chaudhary’s decision to contest independently poses a challenge to the BJP’s strategy as he is likely to split the Jat votes. Babulal affirmed his support for his son’s candidacy, expressing dissatisfaction with Chahar’s performance as the incumbent MP. “I will campaign for my son. We are not against BJP, but repeating Chahar is not acceptable,” he said.
