In a recent turn of events in Samana, Patiala district, farmers showed their dissent by displaying black flags to Patiala Member of Parliament and BJP candidate, Preneet Kaur. The protest was organized on Sunday as part of a call given by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), highlighting the ongoing discontent among the farming community towards the BJP.
The Kirti Kisan Union leader alleged that the police attempted to thwart their protest by trying to detain them in a bus.In retaliation, a group of farmers blocked the Patiala-Samana Road causing a standoff with the administration. DSP Samana Neha Aggarwal clarified that a few farmers were detained only after they obstructed the road, asserting that the detention was a measure to clear the blockade. She mentioned that those detained were released shortly after.
Preneet Kaur, while replying to media queries later, emphasized the democratic right to protest and campaign. “It is their (farmers) right to protest and it is our right to campaign. People will give the verdict and whatever may be, we will accept it,” she stated, showcasing a spirit of acceptance towards the farmers’ protests.
During her visit to Samana for a BJP summit, Kaur lauded the Sankalp Patra released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She praised it as a visionary manifesto that not only reflects the achievements of the BJP government over the last decade but also outlines the future steps for the nation’s development. Kaur highlighted the commitment of the Modi 3.0 government towards the holistic development of all societal sections, including women, youth, the elderly, farmers, and the economically weaker sections.
Furthermore, Kaur criticized the AAP government in Punjab for not fulfilling their promises and accused them of mismanagement. She pointed out the lack of new projects initiated by the state government in the last two years, accusing them of wasting public money on self-promotion rather than addressing the state’s crises.
