Alyssa Healy was seen tackling a pitch invader during the UP Warriorz’ (UPW) match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Wednesday, February 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
A fan breached the tight security at the venue and ran on to the field. Thereafter, Healy was seen trying to stop him from interrupting play. Healy, wearing her wicket-keeping gear, put in all her efforts to bring sanity to proceedings.
WPL 2024: UPW vs MI Highlights
The incident took place after the penultimate ball of MI’s innings when pacer Anjali Sarvani, who replaced Gouher Sultana in the Warriorz lineup, dismissed Sajeevan Sajana. Play was halted for a while before resuming.
Warriorz thump Mumbai
Prior to the game, the Warriorz were under pressure after they lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in succession. However, against MI, the defending champions, they came out firing on all cylinders and won by 7 wickets.
Kiran Navgire, who opened the batting in place of Vrinda Dinesh, scored a 25-ball half-century to lay the platform for her team in their run-chase. Navgire and Healy’s partnership of 94 runs for the opening wicket off 9.1 overs laid the platform for the Warriorz in their run-chase.
In the end, the Warriorz romped home with 21 balls left in their innings. Issy Wong got the wickets of Tahlia McGrath and Healy in the 11th over, but Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma did not let the pressure build.
Harris, one of the fiercest strikers of the cricket ball, stayed not out on 38 runs off 17 balls with 6 fours and a six. Healy also got a decent score under her belt, making 33 runs off 29 deliveries.
Placed 4th in the table, the Warriorz will next be up against Beth Mooney’s Gujarat Giants on Friday, March 1. The Warriorz will fancy their chances as the Giants are languishing at the bottom of the table.
