Gujarat Giants batter, Harleen Deol has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2nd season of the Women’s Premier League due to an injury. The franchise’s official Instagram handle has shared the statement confirming Harleen’s absence for the rest of the season.

“It is with regret that we inform you all that Harleen Deol will not be able to participate in the remaining Women’s Premier League matches due to an injury. Our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery are with Harleen, and we eagerly anticipate her return to action in the future seasons,” the post read.

The Giants had captioned the post,”Our hearts go out to Harleen Deol, whose unfortunate injury has ruled her out of the rest of the TATA WPL season. Take care, Harleen.”

The Giants suffered a huge blow as they would be missing out on the services of their star Indian batter at the crucial juncture of the WPL 2024. Gujarat are currently ranked at the bottom of the WPL points table with just 1 win in the 5 matches they have played so far. The Beth Mooney-led side breathed a sigh of relief after they put up a clinical show with the bat and ball to thump the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 19 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on March 6, Wednesday. Before this win, Gujarat had suffered 4 straight losses during the Bengaluru leg of the tournament and the venue change caused some change in fortunes for the side.

Before the face-off against RCB, Harleen didn’t participate in the match against Delhi Capitals either on March 3, Sunday. The batter had suffered an injury to his left knee while fielding during Gujarat’s match against UP Warriorz on March 1, Friday. The incident happened during the very first over of the chase when Harleen lay on the floor, holding her knee. Deol, while throwing the ball toward the bowler, felt discomfort in her knee and walked off the field with the physio’s help. Gujarat Giants will be facing Mumbai Indians in their next match on March 9, Saturday. With their net run rate of just -1.278, every encounter would be a must-win for the team.
