NEW DELHI: Nestled in the Himalayas, Uttarakhand has emerged as a pivotal player in the political arena. With its five Lok Sabha seats, this state holds the potential to sway election outcomes, making it a crucial battleground in the general elections.
Uttarakhand has been a hotly contested terrain for the BJP and Congress. Earlier in the 2014 and 2019 mega elections, the ruling BJP-led NDA clinched victory across all Lok Sabha constituencies.
As the impending mega elections loom, Uttarakhand braces for polling on April 19th.According to the Election Commission of India, the people of Uttarakhand will cast their ballots in a single phase. Chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar on March 16 announced that the 2024 Lok Sabha polls will be held in 7 phases from April 19 to June 1.
The constituencies of Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, Almora, Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar, and Haridwar collectively shape the political landscape of the state.
NDA has fielded Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Anil Baluni, Ajay Tamta, Ajay Bhatt and Trivendra Singh Rawat from Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, Almora (SC), Nainital–Udhamsingh Nagar and Haridwar lok sabha constituencies respectively. Whereas, INDIA has nominated Jot Singh Guntsola (INC), Ganesh Godiyal (INC), Pradeep Tamta (INC), Prakash Joshi (INC) and Virendra Rawat (INC) as its candidates for Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, Almora (SC), Nainital–Udhamsingh Nagar and Haridwar lok sabha constituencies.
